So you’re tough, but are you tough enough to take on the Secondary Schools Tough Guy and Gal Challenge?

Take on other students from around the country on this muddy obstacle course consisting of swamp crossings, a spider’s web net climb, crawl under barb wire, beautiful native bush trails, tunnels, hurdles, a climbing frame, water crossings and not to mention, mud, mud and more mud! There is a Toughest School Trophy on offer for the winners in the 6km event!

Students can gain NCEA Level 2 and Level 3 credits at the Secondary School Tough Guy and Gal Challenge.

This is a special rate for schools that is only available for the Secondary School Events.

How to Enter
Option 1
School groups can email georgia@eventpromotions.co.nz with the number of students you wish to enter, you will then receive an Excel Spreadsheet with a bulk waiver for you to fill in with all of your student’s details.

Once this spreadsheet has been received your entrants will be registered for the event by the Event Director and you will receive a confirmed entrant list the week of the event.
Please Note: All of the fields on the spreadsheet template must be filled in for each student, otherwise it will be sent back to you for correction.

All School group invoices will be sent to schools AFTER each event to allow for corrections of change in entrant numbers or additional administrative costs.

Option 2
Enter yourself online. A credit / debit card payment is required for this option. Click here to enter online.

Entry numbers are limited! We are only able to accept 1000 entries per race due to NZQA restrictions. We will be working on a first in first serve basis. Entries will ONLY be confirmed once we have your completed school list, bulk waiver and PAYMENT. No entries can be confirmed, nor can places be reserved until we have ALL of this information.

Withdrawals / Refunds
ALL withdrawals MUST be notified to georgia@eventpromotions.co.nz by 9:00am, 48 hours prior to the event date (e.g. For Friday events, this will be 9:00am on the Wednesday, whereas for our Thursday event in Auckland, this will be 9:00am on the Tuesday). These withdrawals will receive their entry fee refund, minus a $10.00 administrative/booking fee per competitor.

Any withdrawals notified to georgia@eventpromotions.co.nz after 9:00am, 48 hours prior to the event date will not be entitled to a refund, no exceptions.

In the case of a natural disaster, closure of the forest due to high winds or other uncontrollable factors, “Act of God” conditions causing the cancellation of the event, entry fees will not be refunded.

Wellington: Camp Wainui, 203 Coast Road, Wainuiomata. Registration in main building.
Hamilton: Ngaruawahia Christian Youth Camp, 148 Waingaro Rd, Ngaruawahia. Registration will be in the large Gymnasium.
Auckland: Kumeu Showgrounds, Gate 2, Access Road, Kumeu. Registration will be in Shed 2.
Rotorua: Lakes Ranch, 79 Lake Rotokawau Rd. Registration will be in the big barn.

Please note there is no 12km distance for the Secondary School events for 2022.

Refunds and Transfers

Withdrawal and Refund Policy
ALL withdrawals MUST be notified to georgia@eventpromotions.co.nz by 9:00am, 48 hours prior to the event date (e.g. For Friday events, this will be 9:00am on the Wednesday, whereas for our Thursday event in Auckland, this will be 9:00am on the Tuesday). These withdrawals will receive their entry fee refund, minus a $10.00 administrative/booking fee per competitor.

All participant transfers between students MUST be made at event registration, no exceptions. If personal information allocated to a bib number is not correct then your students risk not gaining NZQA credits.

Covid-19 Event Policy
If an event is postponed due to Government Restrictions relating to the Covid-19 pandemic, your entry will be automatically transferred to the new event date provided by Event Promotions. If you are unable to attend the postponement date, you will receive a 50% refund on your entry fee.

If an event is cancelled due to Government Restrictions relating to the Covid-19 pandemic, you will receive a 50% refund of your entry fee.

NCEA Information

The Secondary Schools Tough Guy and Gal Challenges are approved by NZQA for Level 2 and Level 3 practical assessment. Times will be released two weeks after each event to ensure the times are fair for all students across all venues. We suggest you use the 2019/2020 times below as a guideline leading into the event.

Grade and Prize Information

Grades (Please note there is no 12km distance for 2022)
All ages for the below grades will be calculated on the day.
Junior Dudes and Chicks: School year 9, 10 and 11
Senior Lads and Lasses: School years 12 and 13
Older Brutes and Beauties: Teachers/Parent Helpers

Merit Prizes
Medals will be awarded to the top three competitors across the line in each secondary school grade and first across the line in the Older Brutes and Beauties grade.

Toughest School 
This prize will be determined by your school’s top three placings across the 6km event. Your 3 combined placings calculate your schools score. There will be both male and female trophies up for grabs.

Spot Prizes
Awesome spot prizes will be randomly drawn at prize-giving. All competitors are eligible but you must be present at prize-giving to collect your prize.

Every Competitor Receives
Each competitor will receive a, FREE Hell Pizza Gourmet Voucher (valued at $9.50), electronic timing, a downloadable certificate and a chance to win one of the major spot prizes.

 

NZ Tough Guy & Gal Championship

New Zealand Tough Guy & Gal Championship – 12km Only

Have you got what it takes to be the fastest, muddiest, and toughest Tough Guy or Tough Gal in New Zealand???

Take part in either the Adult Wellington or Auckland Tough Guy and Gal Challenges and podium in either the 6km and 12km, or take part in either of the Secondary School Tough Guy and Gal events in Wellington, Hamilton or Auckland and podium at the event and you will receive a letter inviting you to the 12km New Zealand Tough Guy & Gal Championship held in Rotorua on the 27th August 2022.

Or if you have podiumed at any of the Tough Guy and Gal Challenge events (6km or 12km) in the last 3 years or if you are confident you can run a distance of 10km in 45 minutes (for men) and 50 minutes (for women) then you are welcome to enter the NZ Champs for an entry fee of $60.

How am I eligible to take part in the NZ Champs

  • Podium at either the Wellington or Auckland Adult events in 6km or 12km (Complimentary Entry)
  • Podium at either the Wellington, Hamilton, Auckland or Rotorua Secondary Schools events (Complimentary Entry)
  • If you have podiumed at any of the Tough Guy and Gal Challenge events (6km or 12km) in the last 3 years. (Entry Fee cost Adult – $60 and Secondary School $45)
  • If you are confident you can run a distance of 10km in 45 minutes (for men) and 50 minutes (for women). (Entry Fee cost Adult – $60 and Secondary School $45)

Grades
Medals will be awarded to the first 3 male and female competitors in the below grades
Secondary Schools Students (must be at Secondary School)
Open Men & Women (39 years and under)
Older Brutes & Beauties (40 years and older)

When and where
The New Zealand Tough Guy and Gal Championship will be held on the 21st August at the Saturday Rotorua Tough Guy and Gal Challenge.

Entry fee
Adults – $60 per person and you must enter before 11th August 2021.
Secondary Schools – $45 per person and you must enter before 11th August 2021.

Early start time at 9.20am – no course congestion!
Personalised bib number
New Zealand Championship trophy up for grabs

Important Information

Age Limit
Competitors must be at Secondary School or be a Teacher or parent help.

Limited numbers
Each event has limited places available, so make sure you enter early to avoid disappointment as these events sell out! We will advise on the website when an event sells out. All venues are limited to 1000 competitors per day to meet NZQA requirements.

What to wear
It is compulsory to wear covered in shoes during the event. You will get wet and muddy. A dry set of clothing, beanie and jacket is highly recommended following your event. Football or Rugby boots with molded studs are acceptable, running spikes or boots with aluminium studs are not permitted.

Obstacles
All obstacles are designed to be challenging, but achievable for people of all abilities. If at any stage you feel you cannot complete an obstacle or feel uncomfortable with it, you are welcome to skip the obstacle. It is important to note that if you do skip an obstacle, you will be ineligible for podium placings.

We also want to make everyone aware that we do not have ANY electrified obstacles at our events.

Every Competitor Receives

Personalised Bib Numbers
If you enter at least three weeks before your event you will receive your very own personalised bib number.

Hot food and beverages will be available from the venue for purchase – please bring cash as most places will not have Eftpos facilities.

Ronald McDonald House Charities® is the official charity of the 2022 Tough Guy & Gal Challenge series!

Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) New Zealand supports families when their child is in a New Zealand hospital away from home! RMHC New Zealand keeps families together, positively impacting on their journey by allowing them to focus on their children.

You can get involved by:

   – Donating to RMHC directly

   – Download RMHC Fundraising Form

  – Set up your own online fundraising page and collect donations

   – Individuals who raise $150 or more for RMHC will receive a special gift.

The money you raise through your  Tough Guy & Gal event will support families while their children receive medical treatment in a hospital away from home. Download the RMHC fundraising form (link above), fill out your details and then use this form to collect the details of the people who have donated to you. Give the form and the money you have raised back to RMHC New Zealand team at your Tough Guy & Gal event.

Grade and Prize Information

Grades (Please note there is no 12km distance for 2022)
All ages for the below grades will be calculated on the day.
Junior Dudes and Chicks: School year 9, 10 and 11
Senior Lads and Lasses: School years 12 and 13
Older Brutes and Beauties: Teachers/Parent Helpers

Merit Prizes
Medals will be awarded to the top three competitors across the line in each secondary school grade and first across the line in the Older Brutes and Beauties grade.

Toughest School 
This prize will be determined by your school’s top three placings across the 6km event. Your 3 combined placings calculate your schools score. There will be both male and female trophies up for grabs.

Spot Prizes
Awesome spot prizes will be randomly drawn at prize-giving. All competitors are eligible but you must be present at prize-giving to collect your prize.

Every Competitor Receives
Each competitor will receive a, FREE Hell Pizza Gourmet Voucher (valued at $9.50), electronic timing, a downloadable certificate and a chance to win one of the major spot prizes.

 

NZ Tough Guy & Gal Championship

New Zealand Tough Guy & Gal Championship – 12km Only

Have you got what it takes to be the fastest, muddiest, and toughest Tough Guy or Tough Gal in New Zealand???

Take part in either the Adult Wellington or Auckland Tough Guy and Gal Challenges and podium in either the 6km and 12km, or take part in either of the Secondary School Tough Guy and Gal events in Wellington, Hamilton or Auckland and podium at the event and you will receive a letter inviting you to the 12km New Zealand Tough Guy & Gal Championship held in Rotorua on the 27th August 2022.

Or if you have podiumed at any of the Tough Guy and Gal Challenge events (6km or 12km) in the last 3 years or if you are confident you can run a distance of 10km in 45 minutes (for men) and 50 minutes (for women) then you are welcome to enter the NZ Champs for an entry fee of $60.

How am I eligible to take part in the NZ Champs

  • Podium at either the Wellington or Auckland Adult events in 6km or 12km (Complimentary Entry)
  • Podium at either the Wellington, Hamilton, Auckland or Rotorua Secondary Schools events (Complimentary Entry)
  • If you have podiumed at any of the Tough Guy and Gal Challenge events (6km or 12km) in the last 3 years. (Entry Fee cost Adult – $60 and Secondary School $45)
  • If you are confident you can run a distance of 10km in 45 minutes (for men) and 50 minutes (for women). (Entry Fee cost Adult – $60 and Secondary School $45)

Grades
Medals will be awarded to the first 3 male and female competitors in the below grades
Secondary Schools Students (must be at Secondary School)
Open Men & Women (39 years and under)
Older Brutes & Beauties (40 years and older)

When and where
The New Zealand Tough Guy and Gal Championship will be held on the 21st August at the Saturday Rotorua Tough Guy and Gal Challenge.

Entry fee
Adults – $60 per person and you must enter before 11th August 2021.
Secondary Schools – $45 per person and you must enter before 11th August 2021.

What you get
Early start time at 9.20am – no course congestion!
Personalised bib number
New Zealand Championship trophy up for grabs

Important Information

Age Limit
Competitors must be at Secondary School or be a Teacher or parent help.

Limited numbers
Each event has limited places available, so make sure you enter early to avoid disappointment as these events sell out! We will advise on the website when an event sells out. All venues are limited to 1000 competitors per day to meet NZQA requirements.

What to wear
It is compulsory to wear covered in shoes during the event. You will get wet and muddy. A dry set of clothing, beanie and jacket is highly recommended following your event. Football or Rugby boots with molded studs are acceptable, running spikes or boots with aluminium studs are not permitted.

Obstacles
All obstacles are designed to be challenging, but achievable for people of all abilities. If at any stage you feel you cannot complete an obstacle or feel uncomfortable with it, you are welcome to skip the obstacle. It is important to note that if you do skip an obstacle, you will be ineligible for podium placings.

We also want to make everyone aware that we do not have ANY electrified obstacles at our events.

Every Competitor Receives

Personalised Bib Numbers
If you enter at least three weeks before your event you will receive your very own personalised bib number.

Hot showers, parking and first aid support are included in your entry fee.

Food and Drinks
Hot food and beverages will be available from the venue for purchase – please bring cash as most places will not have Eftpos facilities.

Ronald McDonald House Charities® is the official charity of the 2022 Tough Guy & Gal Challenge series!

Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) New Zealand supports families when their child is in a New Zealand hospital away from home! RMHC New Zealand keeps families together, positively impacting on their journey by allowing them to focus on their children.

You can get involved by:

   – Donating to RMHC directly

   – Download RMHC Fundraising Form

  – Set up your own online fundraising page and collect donations

   – Individuals who raise $150 or more for RMHC will receive a special gift.

The money you raise through your  Tough Guy & Gal event will support families while their children receive medical treatment in a hospital away from home. Download the RMHC fundraising form (link above), fill out your details and then use this form to collect the details of the people who have donated to you. Give the form and the money you have raised back to RMHC New Zealand team at your Tough Guy & Gal event.

The team at RMHC are excited to be involved in the 2022 Tough Guy & Gal Challenge series.

The events will be held at Camp Wainui, 203 Coast Road, Wainuiomata, Wellington 5373 – just 10km from Lower Hutt.

Camp Wainui provides a unique opportunity within a NZ Native bush environment. Run through water trails, crawl under barbwire obstacles, clamber through tunnels, wade through swamp crossings and pull yourself up hill climbs. The facilities include hot showers, hot food and coffee for sale and free parking. Please car pool if possible, as parking is tight.

The Hamilton venue address is Ngaruawahia Christian Youth Camp, 148 Waingaro Road, Ngaruawahia.

The Ngaruawahia Christian Youth Camp offers a stunning venue nestled between the Waipa River and the Hakarimata Scenic Reserve. The camp is set amongst 38 hectares of native bush and pastures, ready and waiting for tough guys and gals to take on the challenge.

The Auckland venue address is moving for 2022!!
The NEW Auckland venue address is Kumeu Showgrounds, Gate 2, Access Road, Kumeu. Registration will be in Shed 2.

Only 20 km out of the Auckland CBD, the Kumeu Showgrounds is a blank canvas of 80 acres that we know will be one of our best venues.

The facilities include hot showers, toilets, changing rooms, covered areas for gathering, hot food and coffee for sale and free parking. We will have designated car, van and bus parking areas available at the venue as space is not a problem!

6km course consists of 2 laps

The Rotorua venue address is Lakes Ranch, 79 Lake Rotokawau Rd. Registration will be in the big barn.Just follow the signs to Hells Gate and Lakes Ranch is located directly opposite.

This is the original home of the Tough Guy & Gal Challenge. This venue provides a magnificent course with spectacular scenery for the ultimate experience.The facilities include hot showers, large hot swimming pool, backpacker style accommodation, hot food and coffee for sale and good parking.
