🚴♂️ Important Announcement: The 50km Event & The Final Year of the 100K Flyer 🚴♀️
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that 2024 will be the final year of the 100K Flyer Cycle Race after 25 incredible years. This decision has not been easy for us, but due to rising costs and lower participation numbers, we are no longer able to continue hosting this beloved event in the future.
As part of this decision, the 50km race will be cancelled for the final 2024 event. We understand that this will come as a disappointment to many, as the shorter distance has become a favorite for riders of all levels. However, these changes are necessary to ensure the viability of this year’s race. All competitors who have already entered this event have been emailed today regarding next steps.
We want to take a moment to thank each and every rider, volunteer, and supporter who has been a part of the 100K Flyer family over the past two and a half decades. The passion, camaraderie, and commitment to cycling that we’ve witnessed year after year have been nothing short of inspiring.
SO PLEASE 🙏 Join us in 2024 for our final ride, and let’s make it a year to remember! 🚴♂️💛

Cycling Tips
- ALWAYS wear a helmet, no exceptions!!
- Wear cycling gloves and sunglasses.
- Don’t ride your aero bars through town except in near zero traffic conditions. Your time delay in getting onto the brakes from the aero position may be the critical difference in avoiding an accident.
- Don’t ride a bike wearing headphones/ipod. Being able to hear cars approaching from behind is vital.
- If riding at night wear plenty of reflective clothing, don’t wear dark colours. Have plenty of lighting especially red tail lights.
- When approaching cars parked on your side of the road be wary of an opening door.
- Be careful on wet or icy wintry mornings. Watch the road surface for ice signs, don’t lean too much on the corners, and don’t apply too much front brake. Also avoid the road markings when wet, they can be very slippery.
- If you are riding in an event like the 100K Flyer get used to riding on someone else’s wheel and riding in a bunch.
- If you are heading out on a long ride make sure you take enough water, food, clothing, cash and your cell phone. Take at least one spare tyre/tube.

Hidden Lake Hotel & Apartments
Behind a stand of mature trees in Cambridge, a forest is reflected in the mirrored waters of Lake Te Koutu – the hidden lake.
This is a pristine destination, unique to New Zealand. The authentic kiwi post card you see in your mind’s eye stretches out before you. All the classic charm and allure travellers come looking for is found here, in the green hills and misty forest, in the pitched rooves and welcome hospitality.
Cambridge is a beautiful heritage town with leafy streets just 2 hours from Auckland and 20 minutes from Hamilton. Lakewood enlivens the area, creating a buzz. An old railway station and WWII bunker provide a touch of history. The area has a long association with thoroughbred horses, rowing, cycling, and equestrian sports and is often referred to as the “Home of Champions”.
Lake Te Koutu is popular for its trails, variety of trees and magnificent gardens. There are several lookouts and water features to discover on the short walks and long hikes into the surrounding country. Or, if you prefer, there’s really no need to leave the hub.
