South Island Virtual Run/Walk Challenge

Welcome to our next Virtual Challenge! We have chosen to celebrate two very popular destinations in the beautiful South Island. Both the Routeburn Track and the Abel Tasman Coastal Track attract over 280,000 visitors annually between them.

Take on this amazing virtual challenge from Monday 24th August to the 6th September.

Routeburn Track – 32km

Routeburn Track – 32km
The Routeburn is situated inland within the deep south and is considered the ultimate alpine adventure, taking you through ice-carved valleys and below the majestic peaks of the Southern Alps. With the highest point of the track reaching 1,255 metres above sea level as you can imagine the views are simply stunning.

The track has changing terrain ranging from native bush to an exposed alpine environment. Although this track is shorter at 32km it provides some challenging uphill climbs and exposure to all kinds of weather.

Challenge:
To run and/or walk 32km in 2 weeks (14 days).

When?
Monday 24th August to Sunday 6th September.

Where?
Anywhere and everywhere, in line with alert level guidelines of course. Run or walk around your neighbourhood, your favourite tracks, your local park, through the city or around your house – you decide.

Entry fee
$20 + $3 processing fee

How to enter
Entries are now open.
Entries close: 10am Tuesday 25th August

ENTRIES ARE NOW CLOSED.

Medals
All competitors will receive a special finisher medal for participating in this virtual event, these will be sent out to competitors upon the completion of the event. When registering for the event please take special care when entering your address as this is where your finisher medal will be sent to.

How does it all work?
Once you have registered and paid  you will receive a confirmation email with a link to join the exclusive Facebook group. This is where we will set fun challenges and give away some epic spot prizes from our sponsors including Hell Pizza, 1-day, Skyline Rotorua, Millenium Rotorua and Redwoods Tree Walk Rotorua. You’ll be able to connect with fellow competitors, share your progress and ask any questions you may have.

How do I track my progress and where do I submit this?
You can track your progress however you like – we are encouraging people to use whatever apps/methods they are familiar with. This could be done using a Fitbit, a smart watch, an app, manually etc. We have recommended using the app Strava as this is widely used and easy to set up/accessible to almost everyone with a smart phone, but it is not compulsory. You also don’t need to submit your progress anywhere. We will be posting in the group every morning and encourage you to share your day’s activity summary on that post however it is not compulsory to do so in order to receive your medal. This is purely to share your journey, keep yourself accountable and hopefully motivate and inspire others along their journey.

The Abel Tasman is spectacular all year round which makes it the perfect new track for a virtual challenge! While out completing your distance envision the beauty of the azure waters and golden sands taking you on a tropical experience.
